Ceremonies in the council chamber

pic

One of the finest features of the council chamber is the seating accommodation, usually reserved for councillors, which is made of dark oak. The general public are normally seated on divan seats around the room.

Above the Chair's chair and Alderman benches is a battle torn flag, which was presented by the 9th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. It hangs in a place of honour to remember the courage of the Middlesbrough volunteers who fought during the battle of the First World War. The flag cannot be restored and must be left to slowly deteriorate, as requested by the Yorkshire Regiment.
