Subscribe to garden waste collections

From April 2024, you'll have to subscribe to garden waste collections if you want us to collect your green waste.

The subscription costs £40 per year. If you need more than one garden waste bin, you'll pay an extra £20 per year for every bin.

Subscribe

You can subscribe quickly and easily online.

We recommend that you sign up as soon as possible. If you sign up later in the year, you'll still have to pay £40 but you'll get less collections.

If you're struggling to sign up online, you can call call 01642 726001.

What happens next?

Once you're subscribed, we'll give you a new brown bin for your garden waste. It'll be the same size as your current bin. We'll also take your current bin away once we've delivered your new bin.

We'll empty your bin every 2 weeks between April and November. Your collection day may change once the subscription service starts. You'll be able to see your collection day on MyMiddlesbrough.

We'll only collect the waste in your brown bin. You cannot leave out extra waste in other bins, containers, or bags. If you have a lot of garden waste, you can request extra bins when you sign up (up to a maximum of 5).

If you want to cancel your subscription, change your address, or there's a problem with your brown bin, call 01642 726001.

If you do not sign up

If you do not sign up, we'll empty your existing bin one last time and take it away. This will be in April but it may not be on your normal garden waste collection day. We'll publish updates in the recycling and rubbish section and on social media closer to the time.

If you still have garden waste after this, you'll be responsible for getting rid of it. You can book an appointment to take your garden waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centre, or you can compost it.
