Older person's bus pass

Eligibility

First, you'll need to find out when you'll be eligible for free bus travel. This date is not the same for everyone. You can apply for your bus pass up to 28 days before the date you become eligible.

To prove you're eligible, you'll need to provide documents showing your address and date of birth.

You must use two different documents. You cannot use the same document to prove both your address and date of birth.

Address

You'll need a document which shows you live in Middlesbrough. It must have your current address on. Examples include: utility bill or driving licence.

Date of birth

You'll need a document which shows your date of birth. Examples include: birth certificate, passport, driving licence, or prescription.

Apply

The easiest way to apply for your bus pass is online.

Renewing your bus pass

If your bus pass is due to expire, or has already expired, you'll need to renew it. The easiest way to do it is online. We do not renew passes automatically.

You can apply to renew your bus pass up to 28 days before the expiry date on your current pass. There's no cost.

When you renew your bus pass, you'll have the chance to check that your information is correct and update your photo if you need to.

Once your bus pass has been renewed, it'll be valid for the next 5 years.
