About bus passes

A bus pass gives you free or discounted travel on bus services in the Tees Valley. The Tees Valley covers Middlesbrough, Stockton, Darlington, Hartlepool, and Redcar & Cleveland.

You may be eligible for a bus pass if you're an older person or you have a disability.

Using your bus pass in the Tees Valley

You can use your bus pass to travel for free:

  • between 9:30am and 11pm on weekdays
  • at any time on weekends and bank holidays

Outside of these times, you'll pay a fixed fare of 30p for any journey in the Tees Valley.

If your bus pass was issued by a council outside of the Tees Valley, you'll need to pay the full fare to travel outside of these times.

Using your bus pass elsewhere

If you're travelling outside the Tees Valley, you'll need to contact the council for that area to see if there are any restrictions.

You cannot use your bus pass to get free or discounted travel on private coaches or rail services.

The five Tees Valley councils have agreed their plan for delivering the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme in 2023-2024.
