Better Health at Work Award

We want to help bring the benefits of good workplace health and wellbeing to as many people as possible. Workplaces in Middlesbrough can join the North East Better Health at Work Award scheme and get guidance, support, and recognition for improving the health and wellbeing of workers.

The Better Health at Work Award was launched in 2009 to concentrate on improving health and wellbeing in workplaces. Local councils in the North East and Cumbria work together on the scheme, which is coordinated by the Northern TUC (Trades Union Congress).

About the scheme

The scheme is free, flexible, and open to all employers in the region. Every employer which signs up is supported by a dedicated health improvement specialist.

There are five levels of award: bronze, silver, gold, continuing excellence, and maintaining excellence.

Benefits

Promoting a healthy workplace has lots of benefits for employers. It can lead to lower levels of absence, increased productivity, and improved performance. It can also enhance an organisation's reputation and standing with staff, stakeholders, and the wider community.

Middlesbrough Council's journey

Middlesbrough Council is proud to have reached the highest level of the award - maintaining excellence - since joining the scheme in 2009.
