You'll need to fill in your name, date of birth, nationality, NI number, and address. You can find your National Insurance number on your National Insurance card, or on official paperwork like payslips or letters about benefits.
Once you've registered, you'll be added to the electoral register, which is a list of everyone who's registered to vote.
If you're already registered to vote
You normally only need to register once - not for every election. You'll need to register again if you've changed your name, address, or nationality.
The annual canvass
Every year, we contact households in Middlesbrough to check whether the information on the electoral register is correct. This is called the annual canvass. We'll send you a letter when we start the annual canvass.
How to vote
Most people vote in person at a polling station on the day of the election or referendum. You can also vote in advance by post, or ask someone to vote for you (voting by proxy). You can find out more about ways to vote on GOV.UK.
