Online safety advice for parents and carers

Keeping your children safe online is just as important as keeping them safe in the real world. But it can be difficult when technology changes so quickly.

Online radicalisation

The internet gives extremists the ability to target, connect with, and communicate with people who may be vulnerable to the risk of radicalisation.

Being exposed to extremist content and groups online can lead people down a dangerous path.

If you're worried someone close to you might be being targeted, act early and share your concerns so they can get the right support.

Make a referral

If you're a professional who's worried that a young person or vulnerable adult is at risk of radicalisation, use the professionals Prevent referral form.

If you're worried that a friend or family member is at risk of being radicalised, get them the support they need by making a Prevent referral. Call Cleveland Police on 101.

In an emergency, always call 999.

Reporting extremist material online

If you see anything online which promotes or glorifies terrorism and violence, you should report it. This includes things like articles, images, or videos which promote terrorism, terrorist or extremist websites, and videos of terrorist attacks.
