Holocaust Memorial Day (27 January 2024)
Holocaust Memorial Day is the international day on 27 January to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
Armed Forces Day (annual - June)
Armed Forces Day commemorates the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces.
Nagar Kirtan parade (annual - July)
The festival, celebrated by Sikhs worldwide, marks the anniversary of the birth of the eighth Guru of Sikh faith, Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji.
Battle of Britain parade (annual - September)
The Battle of Britain parade is held annually in September at the cenotaph, where a service and wreath-laying ceremony take place, supported by the RAF Cadets.
Trafalgar Day Parade (annual - October)
The Trafalgar Day parade is held annually in October at the cenotaph, where a service and wreath-laying ceremony takes place, supported by TS Erimus Sea Cadets. The parade is usually attended by the Mayors of Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Stockton, and Hartlepool.
Laying of the first poppy (November 2023)
The Mayor of Middlesbrough will lay the first poppy on the field of remembrance at the cenotaph. Pupils from Middlesbrough's primary and secondary schools are also invited to lay a poppy cross.
Armistice Day (11 November 2023)
A service will take place at the cenotaph, including a two minute silence.
Remembrance Sunday (12 November 2023)
The Remembrance Sunday parade and service will take place on 12 November 2023. It will be attended by the mayor and other civic dignitaries. As in previous years, the civic party, veterans, military, and cadets will form up to march up to the cenotaph for the service.
Letters patent ceremony (annual - TBC)
This is the official opening of the Law Courts, and is usually attended by the High Sheriff and the Mayors of Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Stockton, and Hartlepool.
