Before submitting your application please contact the Licensing team on 01642 728011 or email licensing@middlesbrough.gov.uk to find out if your vehicle is suitable to be licensed as a Hackney Carriage (HC) or Private Hire (PH) vehicle. - View the engineer report and JIG report approved providers list
Arrange the appropriate motor insurance.
Ensure that the vehicle is mechanically fit and safe.
Register for a MyMiddlesbrough account. Without a MyMiddlesbrough account, you won't be able to apply for a licence.

To make your application you'll need to submit the following documents:

DVLA vehicle registration document (V5C) bearing your correct name and address. Where an applicant has joined the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) V5C on Demand Scheme the printable PDF of the vehicle details from within their View Vehicle Record will be accepted as an alternative to the V5C document so long as it is accompanied by a copy of the letter from the DVLA confirming that the applicant has joined the V5C on Demand scheme.
A certificate of motor insurance and the policy document, which must be valid on the commencement date of the licence
Details of the operator of the vehicle (Private Hire only)
Meter calibration certificate (Hackney Carriage only)
