Please have a seat campaign

Our 'please have a seat' campaign aims to tackle social isolation, and supports our work to be an age-friendly town. At participating venues, older people and those with mobility issues will be able to sit down and rest if they need a break while out and about.

For residents

add

We're helping to make it easier for you to get out and about by providing places where you'll be able to take a break and have a rest.

In places where 'please have a seat' signs are displayed, you'll be able to sit down and rest, or have a drink of water. In some places you'll also be able to use a bathroom.

You do not have to give a reason for needing to sit down, and if it's a shop, you do not need to buy anything before you're allowed to have a seat.

You can see the venues which are taking part on the map below. Click on the pins (the icons with chairs on) to find out more information about the venues. If you're struggling to use the map, you can email us at agefriendly@middlesbrough.gov.uk for help.

For businesses

Thank you for your interest in signing up to the 'please have a seat' campaign.

We're helping local venues to support older people and those with mobility issues by supplying a chair for people to sit down and relax, and, where possible, letting them use the toilet facilities.

When shoppers see the sticker displayed, they can be sure of a warm welcome and the offer of a seat. There are no strings attached and no pressure for them to make a purchase.

If you want to get involved, you can download and fill in our sign-up form (DOCX). Or you can find out more about the campaign (PDF).
